GREENE, Hildegarde F. "Hilly" 93, died December 13th in Cambridge. Born and raised in Milton, Hilly was a longtime resident of Providence, RI. She was married for 56 years to the late Edward F. "Ned" Greene, a professor of chemistry at Brown University. Hilly was devoted to her husband and four children, a large extended family, and a close-knit group of longtime friends. A staunch advocate for better public schools, Hilly spent countless evenings at PTA and Providence School Committee meetings. She was involved for many years with the Providence League of Women Voters and worked on campaigns for local politicians. After graduating from Smith College, Hilly worked in Washington, D.C. for the Red Cross, and later in Boston as an EEG technician. She is survived by her children—Susan Goodale of New York, NY, Judy Greene of Somerville, David Greene (and daughter-in-law Barbara Bakal Greene) of Baltimore, MD, and Roger Greene of Somerville; grandchildren: Tom Goodale, Joe Goodale, Kate Greene, Ben Greene, and William Greene; and a sister, Nye Ffarrabas of Brattleboro, VT. A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 8th at the First Unitarian Church of Providence, 1 Benevolent St., Providence, RI, 02906 at 2 pm. A reception will follow in the Parish House.
