Eleanor Julie (Maloney) Howe passed away peacefully on April 6, 2017 at Atria Assisted Living in Burlington MA. Eleanor was born May 12, 1917 in Boston and would have been 100 years old in a month.
She was the oldest child of William and Mary (Donovan) Maloney. She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Paul in 1978 and her three younger sisters, Marie, Betty and Jean.
She is survived by her three sons Paul and his wife Sharon of Quincy, Philip of Boston and Los Angeles, Jeff and his wife Debbie in Leverett, MA. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren, Mikalen Howe and Alexis Morrison-Howe, Colton MacDonald, Evan and Leah Roth-Howe and 4 great grandchildren, Tuva and Elsa Siebing, Lucy Morrison-Howe and Jordan Aylesworth. She is also survived by her brother William Maloney and his wife RoseMarie of Harwich MA.
Eleanor graduated from Girls Latin School in Boston in 1935 and received a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Simmons College in 1940. She practiced and taught nursing at Mass General Hospital, and practiced at Floating Hospital, now New England Medical Center and McLean’s Hospital. She was also on the Faculty at Boston City Hospital School of Nursing.
She and Paul began raising their family in Arlington in 1943 and built a home in Arlington in 1951. Eleanor lived there until she moved into Assisted Living in 2009. Eleanor was very active in many parish groups at St Agnes Church and volunteered as a cub scout den mother for 15 years. She also was the head of the Mother’s Guild at Boston College High School for several years.
Funeral from the Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut St. (adjacent to St. Agnes Church, Rt. 60) ARLINGTON, Monday at 10:30AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Agnes Church, Medford St. Arlington at 11:30AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4 - 8 PM.
Services will conclude with burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington.
It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in Eleanor’s memory to Fidelity House, 25 Medford St., Arlington, MA 02474.
