The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.

A Proud Moment Thanks to Bruce

Sooo... Our family Knight Sir Peter Mac Donald. Bruce's Uncle was a genuine WW2 person of note , particularly for his involvement in the Royal Air Force during the Blitz.

Bruce had a keen interest in Peter and was the driving force behind getting a monument to Sir Peter , recognizing his role in history placed on the waterfront along Sydney Habour. We have a family picture of Peter and Dougald in their WW1 woolen uniforms which hung in a place of prominence in Marg and Lefty's home.

One sunny fall afternoon I happened to be out for a walk along the Harbour and noticed a small group of 3 older couples standing in front of the monument, reading with interest. They were American passengers on a cruise ship docked immediately in front of the monument.

I stopped to chat. Turns out the 3 men were all retired service vets from branches of the United States Armed Forces. They had met on the ship.

I filled them in on some background and one of the wives, a retired school teacher, said I was particularly well informed on Sir Peter. I told them he was family, he was my great uncle.

A quick glance passed around the three men and a short whispered conversation took place.

With no additional talking, they formed a line and in military order stood at attention and simultaneously saluted .

I was unable to talk and any comment I might have made would have wolud have been hopelessly inadequet.

Goodon you Bruce. Dougald and Peter would have approved.
