JOHNSON, Frances Hoferek of Arlington, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2017 at Sawtelle Family Hospice in Reading. Daughter of the late Jessie and George Hoferek, she was born on March 20, 1939 and grew up in Bloomfield, NJ. She trained as a Registered Nurse at the Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing in Montclair, NJ. She highly valued education and earned a M.Ed. at Harvard Graduate School of Education and a M.Sc. in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing at Northeastern Graduate School of Nursing. Throughout her career, she helped people in vulnerable situations in hospital, homeless shelter, and prison settings. Most recently she worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Psychiatry at Boston Children’s Hospital. Frances is the beloved mother of Carolyn Johnson (Francis X. Flynn) and Catherine Johnson (Claudio DiBacco) and the devoted grandmother of Erin and Marissa Flynn. She leaves her sister Mary Hoferek (Susan Wilson) and was predeceased by her brother George Hoferek. She also leaves a loving community of friends and colleagues. Visitation at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut St., Arlington MA, on Wednesday, June 14, 5-8 pm. Funeral service at Story Chapel in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mount Auburn St., Cambridge MA on Monday, June 19 at 10:30. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to Boston Children's Hospital.
