Obituary for Marie A. Morgan (Nolan)

Morgan, Marie A. (Nolan) “Mum/Mamamee,” of Braintree, passed away peacefully, November 29, 2017, at the age of 90. Beloved wife of 55 years to (late) Warren A. Morgan. Cherished mother of Dr. Joy E. Morgan, (Weymouth), Tracey A. Morgan (Arlington), John L. (Jack) and wife Martha Morgan (Medford), Faith M. (Morgan) and husband H. Curtis Gaines II (Watertown), and Richard W. Morgan (Braintree). Loving grandmother to Brian and Zachary (Medford). Aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews from Massachusetts to California.

Marie was born (Muriel) May, 9,1927, in Somerville, Massachusetts, to William and Catherine A. Nolan. She was raised, in large part, by her beloved, maternal aunt, Helen E. “Hudi” Cronin and loved dearly by her (late) aunts, Mary “Mae” (Cronin) Laverty and Theresa L. Cronin, of Somerville. Marie attended St. Clement School and High School and went on to complete her training in Business Administration at the venerable Katie Gibbs School, in Boston, MA, after which she worked as a switchboard operator at The Bell Telephone Company, the U.S. Federal Government (GSA), and later Spaulding (formerly Mass) Rehabilitation Hospital, in Boston.

In 1958, Marie married military and private pilot Warren A. Morgan, of Arlington, and they travelled cross-country, multiple times by car, plane and RV and travelled together across the continent. They settled in California where Marie gave birth to her five children: Joy, Tracey, Jack, Faith and Richard. She worked throughout her life but dedicated herself to her family, whom she loved and sacrificed for unconditionally, as well as her many dogs and cats all of whom loved her in equal measure.

Marie was known for her warmth and kindness as well as her intelligence and sparkling wit. She was a devout Catholic who lived by the Word of God, with all her might, in a way that was truly extraordinary. She volunteered and taught CCD at St. Patrick’s Parish in Cambridge for many years and contributed faithfully to Little Sisters of the Poor and the Home for Little Wanderers, among others. She loved the ocean and delighted in the beauty of light houses. Her greatest pride was her children, daughter- and son-in-law, and brilliant grandsons, Zachary and Brian whom she loved beyond measure.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend: Visitation, Monday, Dec. 5, 4-8 pm., Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut Street ARLINGTON. Funeral 10 am Tuesday, Dec. 6 from Keefe followed by Mass 11 am at Saint Raphael Church 512 High Street MEDFORD. Interment St. Bernard’s Cemetery, CONCORD. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marie may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Home for Little Wanderers or Disabled American Veterans. (Funeral Home Handicapped Accessible)
