Bom-Wrapper

The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Lucie Brock-Broido can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

I only just learned of Lucie's passing and I'm sorry to have missed the services

I'm not a poet or even an academic.                                                                                                                I'm a custom cabinetmaker / builder and my shop is 4 blocks from 15 Sargent St.                                          I guess I've known her about 10 years and during that time done 5 or 6 jobs for her.

One of you mentions sitting around her big living room table.....                                                                    Well  I don't know what you all were doing but I remember making substantial structural repairs to that table.

Then there was the marble tile for the bathroom tub surround....It's quite a strong rust red with wild black and white streaks so to make some sense of cohesion, Lucie laid them all out on the bedroom floor and moved them around until she had an acceptable pattern.                                                                          She explained that she took baths and she didn't want to be assaulted by her walls as she soaked           Of course, this took some time but in the end she had each one where she wanted it and it WAS better.    I imagine that's how she organized her words too.

There was a door from her kitchen to her back yard deck that had been sealed shut.                                   It was a custom door made to order but, while the door was square, the opening was not and so the marriage was not a good one. It was clear that replacement was the only viable option if she wanted kitchen-deck access so she could smoke outside comfortably.                                                                  (Yes, she was a smoker...OH THE HORROR !.....I preffer cigars myself...)   Anyway she picked out an expensive door...she had good taste...and we removed the old one and installed the new one.             You'd have thought I'd just gifted her a castle she was so happy to have her deck back.

Lucie gave me inscrbed copies of two of her books...I can't make head nor tails of her work but she was smart and savvy and engaging and easy on the eyes and her books will have pride of place in my office.     Gone too soon..........I'm going to miss her.

Michael
