Condolence: My heart goes out to her family and loved ones. What an incomparable figure--raucous, elegant, kindly, brazen, gentle, tough. Though she tried to restrain herself, she loved a little wickedness. Reading her poems in the aftermath of her death, I feel as if she were preparing herself, and her audience, for her own and our own demise. Such an uncanniness to the voice. What the old Hebrews might have called prophetic.
