Obituary for Gene H. Muhlherr, Jr.

Gene H. Muhlherr, Jr.
Gene H. Muhlherr, Jr, 59, of Watertown, MA passed away early Sunday morning, June 24, 2018 at Mass General Hospital.
Gene was married to Marina for 18 years. In the late 90's, after watching the film 'Anna Karenina' and talking to a coworker, Gene decided to visit Russia. He signed up with a Tour agency to take in the sights of St. Petersburg. Through a twist of fate, Marina was the tour guide, and by the end of the trip, Gene had convinced her to keep in touch. The rest is history. They have enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and Russia, gaining a deep affinity for France.

Gene was born in South Bend, IN and during his formative years, the family lived in Texas, California, Louisiana and Indonesia. This produced in him a love of travel and a respect for other cultures and values.

Gene graduated from high school at the Joint Embassy School in Jakarta, Indonesia. There he became an Eagle Scout, was a member of the soccer team, the archaeology club, and made many lifelong friends. He attended Colorado School of Mines, and graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Civil Engineering.

Gene hired on with what is now Enbridge Inc. 35 years ago, working in environmental permitting. He worked his way up to Senior Project Manager, and was respected by his peers for his professionalism, respect for others, and proficiency in managing projects and teams. Construction of the 500-mile Sabal Trail Pipeline was among his most significant accomplishments. Gene worked on projects in Canada, northeastern, southeastern, and southwestern U.S. He touched many lives in his travels.

Gene loved cooking, playing Dungeons and Dragons, gardening, watching and coaching soccer, traveling around France, hanging out with friends, good beer, and taking long walks with Marina and Marco, their Gordon Setter. He had an infectious smile and loved to tell tall tales (mostly about himself) to any child who would listen. He will be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Marina Sofronova, father Gene H. Muhlherr Sr., brother Mike (Camy) Muhlherr, sister Trish (Derick) Baisa, sister Margaret Muhlherr, nieces Sophie, Madeline and Sydney, and nephew Garrett. Gene was preceded in death by his mother Josephine Sergio Muhlherr and grandparents Paul and Margaret Sergio and Talitha Muhlherr.

A memorial wake was held at Keefe Funeral Home, 2175 Mass Ave, Cambridge, MA on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 from 5-8 p.m.

A Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, Geddes Hall, Univ. Of Notre Dame Campus, South Bend, IN with reception to follow on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 5:30 p.m.
